OCS Components: Call Forwarding
(Sorry this is up a day late. We”re in the middle of a BIG website upgrade!)
In sifting through some post ideas, I came across a few OCS tips on Brett Jo’’s blog. The one I”d like to talk about today is Call Forwarding (that’’s linked to from ”OCS” in the last sentence).
Call Forwarding is pretty standard these days. You set the office phone to forward to your mobile if you”re out. Maybe you forward calls from your cellphone when you”re in the office, too. With OCS, it’’s a little different. You set up all call forwarding from Office Communicator.
How to Setup Call Forwarding
In the OCS client’’s upper right corner, there’’s a phone icon. It looks like this:
Click the phone and the Call Forwarding menu will open.
From here you turn Call Forwarding on or off, and pick a number. What 90% of people do when they forward calls.
If you want to set up a sort of “call forwarding policy,” then click Call-Forwarding Settings… to open the full settings menu.
Want all calls to come through your mobile? Select “Forward calls to:” and choose your mobile number.
Want everything to go to voice mail today? Make sure “Redirect unanswered calls to:” has Voicemail selected (like I do above).
(If your mobile or other numbers aren”t available, that means they”re not listed in Office Communicator. Go to the main Options menu - see OCS Components: Conversation History for how to find it - and click the Phones tab. Here you can enter as many phone numbers as you need.)
Don”t Shut Yourself Out Though!
Be careful — like most other phones, these settings stay the same until you change them. Even if your computer’’s off. If you”re expecting an important call today, then make sure OCS doesn”t send them automatically to voicemail.
I wrote about Call Forwarding because most people don”t think about it anymore. They just expect it to come with the phone. Thankfully, it’’s taken care of in OCS.
